Are You Really A Christian?

There are many people today claiming to be saved, claiming to be Christians who are not. It is not enough to go to church every time the door is open, worship and praise God, sing in the church or teach a Sunday School class. A person can do all these things and still not know God.

The true test whether or not we are saved and know God, is if we are walking as Jesus walked… in total submission and obedience to God and his Word. If we are not walking in obedience, we are deceived and the Word says that we are liars, hypocrites.

This means that if we are not walking in obedience to what God has revealed in his Word, we are deceiving ourselves, it is not enough to simply hear and agree with what God has revealed to us. It is not enough to profess we know God and that we belong to him. We must obey. We must walk as Jesus walked. Obedience is the proof… the evidence that we know God. We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.

The man who says, “ ‘I know Him’, but does not what he commands is a liar and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his Word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him. Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” – John 2:3-6

It is through our obedience that Christ reveals and manifests himself to us. Jesus said, “The person who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, and whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I (too) will love him and will show myself to him.” – John 14:21

I will let myself be clearly seen by him and make myself real to him. The more you are willing to humble yourself and walk in obedience to the Word, the more Christ will reveal himself to you.

It is through our obedience that we will be able to walk in freedom, Jesus said, “If you abide in my Word hold fast to my teachings and live in accordance with them, you are truly my disciples. And you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” – John 8:31

You have probably heard the last part of this scripture quoted many times… “And you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” In this verse, Jesus clearly sets forth a condition for being one of his disciples. He said, If you abide in my Word… hold fast to my teachings and live in accordance with them, you will be one of my disciples. – John 8:31-32

In essence, Jesus was saying that as you abide in the Word and walk in obedience, conforming your life to the Word, you will be one of his disciples and you will progressively know the truth. As you walk in obedience to what God has revealed to you, you will walk in the truth and the truth will set you free!

Amen!
